Lead Software Engineer

Utrecht
32-40 hours
At Lab Digital, craftsmanship in technology and reaching new heights in our social responsibility are key. We make a positive impact, both in the results of our digital expertise, in our daily activities and in society. We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer who fits our organisation, who is energised by mentoring and hands-on coding. Someone who takes our organisation and our teams a step further.

Responsibilities

You are responsible for creating long-term solutions, resolving technical escalations, and communicating status to stakeholders and have a leading role in this. From the beginning to the end of a project, you are responsible, including ensuring that all team members play an active role in the project. Together with the team, you develop high-quality, future-proof, and robust software and put it into production in a good way. You devise and estimate the technical solution that fits the demand, taking into account the potential team and the challenges. When an estimate is incorrect, you coordinate with stakeholders to address the risks and take responsibility. You involve colleagues in decisions, including estimates. In doing so, you constantly consider maintainability, reusability, observability, security, and scalability. And also knowledge of our organisation, how a customer or project fits in, and the trade-off between budget vs. scope.

Visibility

You ensure that there are no invisible people or projects. In this respect, you proactively seek cooperation to ensure that we pay attention to people and their ambitions. You are actively involved in knowledge sharing and internal (technical) cooperation, including stimulating this between teams.

Long-term

In the long term, you help further develop and implement the technical vision, including the further development of internal standards. You keep abreast of developments in our field and their impact on our organisation and services and consider when there is room for innovation. You will also be involved in recruitment & selection, to make sure we find the right people to grow the organisation.

About you

Your knowledge is not in one specific language but in several languages, such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Python or Go. You also master architecture and soft skills. You are a sparring partner for the customer and all disciplines internally, including Solution Architect, Business Analyst, and developers.

You have social skills and know how to create a positive, energy-rich atmosphere in a team. You have an eye for how people are really doing and know how to use different communication and leadership styles, depending on the situation. You always honour appointments and ensure that others do too. You are solution-oriented and decisive while leaving room for others. Regularly delegating and saying what is on your mind describe you. Coaching technical colleagues comes naturally to you, as does helping colleagues how to be better mentors to others. You understand the team’s strengths and identify risks. Your communication skills help you build trust with internal and external stakeholders. When people are not on the same page, you make sure everyone feels heard and a decision is made.
